Dubai golf in the spotlight: Dubai’s reputation has steadily grown since Expo 2020, and it is increasingly becoming the place to be for international golf and golf tourism. With 18 world-class golf courses throughout the United Arab Emirates, 13 of which are located in Dubai, golfers are flocking to them in ever greater numbers.
Competitions with worldwide visibility
Hosting international tournaments, these 18 golfing venues are gaining visibility through competitions broadcast on TV worldwide, such as the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
Another legendary course is Faldo, renamed when it reopened in October 2006 after being redesigned by golf legend, and six-time, world title winner, Nick Faldo.
Finally, the Majlis at Emirates Golf Club was the first to be laid to grass in the Middle East, in 1987, and has played a key role in the development of the sport in the region, notably with the Dubai Desert Classic competition held annually since 1988.
Legends such as the Americans Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau, the British Stephen Gallacher and Paul Casey, Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, and Australia’s Lucas Herbert have all won trophies here. The women are not to be outdone in terms of high performance, with prestigious golfers such as Australia’s Minjee Lee and Spain’s Nuria Iturrioz.
Prestigious sites and dates
Dubai has a lot to offer those with a passion for golf tourism. Indeed, its many 5-star hotels and top-of-the-range gourmet restaurants, as well as its huge shopping and leisure centers, provide the perfect setting for golfers and spectators of international tournaments alike.
The golfing calendar in Dubai opens in October each year with the Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic women’s tournament. This season began with this tournament in October 2021 on the Faldo course, followed by the DP World Tour Championship from November 18 to 21, 2021, on the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
The biggest event will take place at the beginning of this year, from January 27 to 30, 2022: the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic. Taking place as it does every year on the Majlis course at Emirates Golf Club, it is part of the Rolex Series 2022, with an exceptional prize fund of $8 million.
A world open to you, day and night!
If you love golf, you can enjoy these mythical courses outside of tournaments, as they are open to all players, professional and amateur alike.
In addition to 18-hole courses, there are also 9-hole courses that can be played at night, such as Track Meydan Golf and Trump International Golf Club. Some courses are open day and night, such as TopGolf, which also offers the possibility of playing with microchip-equipped balls and a green with giant dartboard-like targets. If you’ve got kids, there’s a special area for them to play golf like grown-ups.
